Argan Oil – Beauty and Youth Starts Here
What’s The Hype About?
Argan Oil has been around for a long long time but has only until recently received a lot of good press especially in the beauty and cosmetic industry. Over the past 15 years argan oil has become increasing popular in the US and the rest of the world because of its anti-aging properties and its ability to diminish wrinkles and fine lines in a natural way. There are a whole bunch of other things argan oil can do for your skin.
Is it Safe?
These days, when there are plenty of synthetic creams and ingredients, you wonder if they are actually safe enough for use. Well, if you fall into this group, then rest assured that it is completely natural and very safe for use. In addition to that, Argan oil is one of nature’s most potent beauty serum and the best think about is it WORKS!
Argan oil is produced from the kernels of the argan tree which can be found in almost parts of Morocco. Frequently called “Liquid Gold”, it has been used in Morocco for almost 3500 years and is highly adaptive to the arid and dry conditions in the Morrocan desert. Back in the days when modern medicine was not available, the Phoenicians discovered the healing properties of argan oil on a variety of skin conditions. They even use it on their hair and nails. Up till this day, the women of Morocco have been applying argan oil on a daily basis.
Will this treatment ever go out of date?
Just like any beauty cream or oil on the market, almost any new product will become popular and will overshadow the popularity of older products. Well I cannot guarantee that this does not happen with argan oil, the fact that Morrocans have been using this for 3500 years is a testament to its effectiveness and it reliability. I believe that argan oil will continue to be applicable even a hundred years from now as nothing beats using something natural or something unaltered by any manufacturing process. If you are worried about the argan tree ever going extinct, then you can feel at ease to know that UNESCO have placed it under protection in an area called the Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve ( Wikepedia Ref).
How Is Argan Oil Processed?
Argan Oil production is one of the most difficult and tedious process in the beauty industry. The reason behind this is because it takes a single argan tree’s entire full season of fruit and 48 hours of hard manual labour to produce a litre of oil. Even in the 21st century, argan oil is processed using the same traditional methods used 3500 years ago. When a ripe argan fruit is chosen it is grounded and its fruit kernels removed. After this step, argan oil is extracted using either:
- Cold pressed method OR
- Hand Grinding
Arguable, this production process makes it one of the most precious; if not the most precious oil on Earth. The UNESCO protection also means that it is pretty rare to get it, so don’t be surprised to find that argan oil is pretty expensive.
But is it worth the money spent?
Certainly! A 4-ounce bottle of argan oil might cost somewhere between $20-$40 on the market depending on where you purchase it but the results you see after using it speaks for itself.
Here are what some testimonials from people who have used argan oil:
“Argan oil is high in botanically sourced squalene. Squalene has a chemical similarity to human skin sebum. So, it is essentially ‘like feeding like.’ Our skin is our armor against a world of environmental pollution, food degradation and stress and it needs to be nourished in order to stay healthy.” As an acupuncturist, she has also found the oil’s anti-inflammatory effects beneficial, and says it “works wonders on softening scar tissue.”

“I have been using argan oil daily for six months now as I started having a case of adult acne thanks to a stressful time trying to look for jobs. I stopped by over a a Josie Maran counter that sells argan oil after finding that a lot of OTC vitamin A creams and a lot of other skin products don’t seem to work! After a month using it, my husband begin to tell me that my skin is starting to look better and is glowing since I started using the “expensive stuff”. Naturally, I was pretty impressed with this and I was even more surprised that my acne also got much better. I still do get the occasional breakouts but this Josie Maran Argan oil really works!”
